Utah Sports Medicine
Orthopedic Surgeon
It is no surprise to hear that Utah ranks in the top 10 most physically active states in the U.S. This stems from our great outdoor parks and trails, and our community’s involvement and passion for sports and exercise. At CORE, our sports medicine specialists are deeply committed to preventing, recognizing, managing, and rehabilitating injuries from sport, exercise or recreational activity.
The Utah Department of Health released a 5 year study that showed over 4,600 sports related injuries among our High School student population. The highest number of injuries occurred (in priority order) from basketball, football, soccer, and baseball/softball. CORE Physicians work closely with the athletes and coaching staff to educate, prevent, and regularly treat athletes from our surrounding high schools – including Copper Hills, West Jordan, Bingham, Herriman, Jordan, Riverton, and Alta High Schools.
CORE also works extensively with University of Utah, REAL Soccer, Utah Blaze, Westminster College, Odyssey Dance, Ballet West and Olympic athletes across the state.
Whether you are a beginner or skilled athlete, common sports-related injuries and conditions include:
- Overuse running, throwing and dance injuries
- Painful tendon disorders (tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, achilles and patellar tendinopathy)
- Concussion management
- Sprains, strains, contusions (brusies) and other soft tissue injuries
- Stress fractures
- Burners and stingers
- Female Athletes: Health Problems Caused by Extreme Exercise and Dieting
