Utah Foot and Ankle Surgeon
The human foot is a biological masterpiece that can sustain enormous pressure – in fact, it can withstand several tons of pressure over the course of running just one mile. Supporting that mechanical complexity is the shock absorbing foundation of the ankle.
For runners, the feet and ankles are more prone to injury than any other part of their body. And with marathon and long distance relay running (such as RAGNAR) becoming more and more popular in Utah, it is critical that runners stay in tune with and take good care of their feet. As medical care providers for the Salt Lake Marathon, the staff at CORE is well versed in the challenges of avoiding painful conditions or injury. The most common foot complaint is inflammation of the ligaments in the arch, or plantar fasciitis. This can be caused by unequal pressure applied to the inside of the foot or wearing running shoes that are too soft or worn. At the first sign of this painful condition, the Physicians at CORE recommend using arch supports – eventually custom orthotics, physical therapy and injections may be called for.
Experienced runners can also experience tendonitis and neuromas. In some cases they may actually be running on a fractured foot. If pain and swelling do not go away after three days, see the experts at CORE for diagnosis and X-Ray.
Our experienced physicians and healthcare staff are committed to continuing education and staying current with the latest techniques, surgical procedures, and equipment. Many of the surgeries we perform are done on an outpatient basis, removing costly and inconvenient hospital stays.
